Deca-BDE & RoHS Compliance

The Deca-BDE update to RoHS.

The European court of Justice has annulled the Deca-BDE (Decabromodiphenyl Ether) exemption to the EU RoHS directive. This update has an immediate impact on EEE manufacturers who till now were only required to be compliant to the 6 substances covered under the RoHS directive. This update comes into effect from 01/July/2008.

Manufacturers now need to reassess their compliance status, to identify non compliance if any and conduct required modifications to product designs or Bills of Materials to ensure they remain compliant to EU regulations. Companies will need to deploy considerable resources to ensure that their products are free of Deca-BDE, while also developing an audit trail which proves the due diligence efforts they have taken for compliance.
